Earlestown, Newton-Le- Willows, Merseyside WA12 9ED
The small town of Earlestown lies on the outskirts of Newton-Le-Willows, a town situated in the northwest of England between Manchester and Liverpool.
The Greyhound Racing venue that I am about to reveal can only be described as a flip track, this due to its operating on a temporary betting license issued by the Council. Origins of the venue dates back prior to the Second World War, yet this enclosed venue served as the home to Earlestown Football Club also.
The venue was situated just off Vista Road, and yet it still remains unclear what decade it became home to a temporary greyhound track, a staked-out grass circuit which had been laid around the football pitches perimeter.
With Bookmakers being allowed to stand, Earlestown served up just sixteen meetings during its days, with eight meetings being staged legally either side of new year. The brief appearance of Greyhound Racing during this period was its first and only spell, leaving Football to be its main attraction for many years after.
The venue eventually was sold for redevelopment and soon its foundations disappeared beneath housing on Vista Way and Rushy View.
