Horse Show Ground, Lexden, Colchester, Essex

Newspaper evidence proves that Greyhound Racing took place as early as January 1928, at the Horse Show Ground at Lexden near Colchester.

The suburb of Lexden lies two miles west of Colchester town centre. with The Horse Show ground situated just off Halstead Road north of the town, on the site of the current Ambulance Station.

Six races took place on the 14th of January 1928, but little else is known how things were arranged, although another meeting comes to light in May proves that it was not a one off although it is thought that no more events were run after 1928.

This press cutting is dated January 13th 1928.
