Westbury United Football Ground, Meadow Lane, Westbury, Wiltshire BA13 3AF

Newspaper advertisements prove that greyhound racing took place at the Wiltshire town of Westbury during the early 1950’s. It is known that the towns football club, Westbury United, staged a series of eight meetings during 1952 and 1954.

This was a period that other temporary Greyhound Racing gatherings were being organised throughout Wiltshire, where it is thought that the same company had staged meetings at two other venues in nearby Trowbridge.

Little else is known on how these gatherings operated, as distances or lure types are not mentioned on the advertisements. Today, the venue continues to stage amateur football, and remains located along Meadow Lane roughly 400 metres northwest of Westbury town centre.

The football ground is now known as Westbury Park Engineering Ground, with the football club having purchased the four-acre site for £475 during 1934.
