Braybrooke Road, Desborough, Kettering, Northamptonshire, NN14

The Northamptonshire town of Desborough becomes another greyhound racing venue that had a brief operational spell during the early1930’s. The town of Desborough is located five miles northwest of Kettering, just east of the A6 which links Leicester to Kettering.

The exact location of the venue still remains unclear. There are two possible locations, both along Baybrooke Road, firstly a football ground presently the home of Desborough Town, but the second one is more favourable, on farmland three quarters of a mile northwest of Desborough town centre at the junction with Arthingworth Road.

Local press reports show that the venue staged its first meeting on the 23rd of July 1932. Six dog Race events were staged over 300 and 525 yards, with the shorter distance accommodating Whippets also. Local press confirms that meetings were staged throughout the winter months of 1932 and early 1933.

There is also reliable evidence that gatherings were staged during 1934 and 1935, but these dates have yet to be confirmed.
