Greyhound Stadium, South Bersted, Bognor Regis
The Sussex seaside resort of Bognor Regis can add itself as a town that hosted greyhound racing also, proved by an advert found in the local press during June 1933.
It showed that it would take pace in the district of South Bersted, an area found roughly one mile north of Bognor Regis’s sea front. Information regarding its exact location, or how it operated even how long it lasted still remains unavailable.
UPDATE: October 2023 – A grt reader believes they raced the greyhounds on a site on which a Tesco store is now built. It is not clear whether this is the Bognor Regis Superstore on Shripney Road (Postcode: PO22 9ND.) Further clarification required.
Sorry a bit vague as my dad is 94 but he said his dad use to race his gray hounds on a made up track where Tesco is today , with a pop up beer tent before the war but could not continue after as the council would not give a licence
Thank you for your email about BOGNOR REGIS GRT. I have put a note on the web site.
