“behind premises in Aurs Road”, Glasgow

Little is known regarding greyhound racing gatherings taking place in Barrhead, a town situated eight miles south west of Glasgow.

Research reveals a date that events took place during July 1934, but it is my presumption that its existence was for a short period of time only. Although its exact location has yet to be determined, sources suggest that the site of the old venue remains beneath a school presently situated east of Aurs Road.

Other sources reveal that events were run over 300 and 325 yards, operating as an independent track. Further to add is a readers contribution saying his father was involved with the track in a part ownership position and also covered the routine maintenance. His father also added that the hare system was forever breaking down with the cable snapping regularly causing disgruntlement amongst the punters.

The Barrhead track is mentioned in this Greyhound Owner caption dated December 1955.
