St Joseph’s Football Ground, Guidford

The Surrey cathedral city of Guildford becomes another location to have experienced Greyhound Racing at a temporary level. It was at the St Joseph’s Football Ground, the old home of Guildford City Football Club.

The sport took place during June 1970, a period which you could say was the latter days of the stadium’s existence, as it had just been announced that the venue had been sold for redevelopment.

Little is known how greyhound racing operated, but it is known that the stadium closed for all sporting activities in 1973 before being demolished in 1977. The site is now covered by Apartments on Langley Close, an estate found roughly one mile north of Guilford city centre.
