Newmarket Town Football Ground, Cricket Field Road, Newmarket, Suffolk CB8 8BT

The Cambridgeshire town of Newmarket links itself clearly with the sport of Horse Racing, yet evidence does show that it hosted Greyhound Racing also.

Evidence shows that it took place at the towns football ground on Cricket Field Road during 1947, and also adverts printed in the Greyhound Owner newspaper of 1964 and 1967, shows that it had more than just one brief spell.

Little is known on how it operated other than meetings were promoted on a temporary betting license. Newmarket Town Football ground still exists and is a totally different venue from those days of Greyhound Racing. The Cricket Field Road ground is situated roughly half a mile south of Newmarket town centre.

Two adverts printed in The Greyhound Owner during 1964, above dated May 14th below June 4th.
This Greyhound Owner advert is dated July 1967.
