Roborough Polo Ground, Plymouth, Devon
Another of the cities that seems to have come to life during the sports pioneering years with temporary greyhound tracks, was Plymouth in South Devon.
This chapter describes one of its earliest, with a track operating in the district of Roborough, an area found five miles north of Plymouth city centre. It is more than likely gatherings were only staged briefly, possibly during gala days, but it is known that it staged a meeting during April 1928.
Evidence of this gathering is shown in the additional photograph, which shows a hound chasing a lure, best described as a sledge hare, along a straight course, in front of a very impressive crowd indeed that day. Its exact location has yet to be determine.
