The Screeds Football Ground, Ashby, Scunthorpe
Ashby Institute Football Ground in Scunthorpe, became another of Lincolnshire’s Greyhound Racing venues, that would operate under a temporary license organised by the Lincoln Ball Hare Promotions.
The venue was found about a mile south of Scunthorpe’s town centre in the district of Ashby, but any evidence of the sport having taken place has now gone. Meetings are found to have taken place during 1969 and 1970.
Spot grading was used to grade the hounds, who would later contest over a straight course. Like all these temporary venue in Lincolnshire, a ball type hare was used as the lure.
It is known that the football club folded in 1989 with The Screeds Football Ground being demolished for new housing in 1993. The old Main Stand was dismantled and re-erected at nearby Bottesford Town.
