Pump Lane, Chelmsford, Essex, CM1
Probably one of the shortest ever existence of a Greyhound Racing venue was the one staged at Pump Lane Corner. Pump Lane Corner lies on the outskirts of the parish of Springfield, an area located roughly two miles northeast of Chelmsford in Essex.
Although the track’s exact location is still unknown, information tells us that it was laid out across a grazing meadow and is presumed that it had no outbuildings either.
It is known that 150 people attended its first gathering on the 1st of October 1949, yet the following meeting arranged for a week later was interrupted by the local farmer who instantly refused the meeting to go ahead. It seems almost certain that no further gatherings took place.
