Old Red House, Hannington, Northamptonshire NN6 9TB
The Northamptonshire village of Hannington can boast it staged greyhound racing at two different temporary venues. Hannington is located about 8 miles northeast of Northampton, and six miles southwest of Kettering.
It is known that greyhound racing originally took place during the summer of 1931 on a meadow opposite the Old Red House Public House. This watering hole was located alongside the busy A43 at the junction of Red House Lane, located roughly half a mile northeast of Hannington village.
Little is known about this temporary venue on how it operated, its existence was brief of course, but its exact location has yet been determined. Sadly, The Red House Public House is no longer in business, it closed during 2000, fortunately it’s still there, but what remains is derelict and vandalised.
The locals suggests that it is still a residence for ghosts of people who lost their lives on the busy A43. Yet there is one good thing that this building offers, as it acts as a landmark to were greyhound racing was once staged roughly 90 years ago.
