Harrogate Agricultural Show Ground, Knaresborough Road, Harrogate, Yorkshire HG2
It is known that a temporary greyhound track was laid in the vicinity of Harrogate in West Yorkshire. The spa town of Harrogate lies roughly fifteen miles north of Leeds city centre, with a cutting from a Greyhound Owner newspaper suggesting that greyhound racing took place during the Autumn of 1949.
Events took place on the Knaresborough Road showfield in Starbeck, a sports field located roughly one mile east of Harrogate town centre. Although events proved popular with over 2,000 attending its first gathering yet attempts to gain permission for a permanent venue failed.
The Sportfield no longer exists as Shaw’s Trailer Park now covers the site.
