maybe Sheepmount Athletics Stadium, Mayor’s Drive, Carlisle CA3 8XL

Another venue to host greyhound racing within the boundaries of Carlisle was the one known as the Sheepmount greyhound track.

The area of Sheepmount itself was a cluster of playing fields and a recreational area that lay on the banks of the River Eden, situated one mile northwest of Carlisle city centre.

It is clear that greyhound racing was staged there during the mid 1960’s, with events run over a sprint distance and a four bend 525 yards distance. Meetings consisted of six dog handicap events, yet the lure type has yet to be determined. Little is known on how the track operated or how long it lasted, but in more recent times this land has now been transformed into an athletics track.
