New Cumnock, Ayrshire

The Ayrshire town of New Cumnock adds itself to the list of short-term greyhound tracks. The town itself should not be confused with its neighbour the town of Cumnock five miles away, both ex mining towns situated roughly 20 miles or so east of Ayr.

It is in The Greyhound Owner editions of October 1953 and August 1956, that it is mentioned the construction of a new track was to be built in the town.

Unfortunately, its exact location has never been revealed, and foremost no further newspaper issues suggest that it ever opened, so it is a possibility that the track at New Cumnock never really existed at all, although this 1953 caption does suggest that flip meetings did take place.
