The areas around Rayleigh in Essex had seen Greyhound Racing at two venues prior the construction of the more established Rayleigh Stadium during 1947. The one described in this chapter and was known as Rayleigh Sport Stadium. Its promoters also called it The White City of Essex, although it was a brief spectacle of other White City’s around the country, as this venue had just one covered stand. It is known to have operated during 1931, with four meetings per week on offer, with 6 dog racing contesting over a 300 and 500 yard course. It is also known that the venue was used to stage Dirt Track Speedway and was still in operation during June 1933. No other information is available, and even the exact site location is yet to be determined.
